Viagra, as a lifesaving medicines for kids

Kochi: Viagra, which is considered as a sex arousal medicine has now proved to act as a lifesaving one in kids says medical
specialists. Kids in a serious condition with pulmonary hypertension has miraculously recovered when treated with Viagra.

This new mode of treatment was done under the leadership of Dr. Rajiv, the Head Of Paediatric Department of Amritha Institute of Medical
Sciences, Edappalli. He says that such a treatment is for the first time in India.

Viagra was used first time in a kid born to a mother from Mavelikkara. The baby born only eight hours before had been taken to Amritha
due to apnoea and cyanosis. The baby was serious due to pulmonary hypertension which is a condition in which the blood vessels from heart
to the lungs had constricted due to pneumonia of the lungs. Pulmonary hypertension occurs due to asphyxia arising during child birth.

Viagra was used in small doses after all the modern treatment practices had failed to resuscitate the newborn when the second dose was
given the baby had miraculously responded, Dr. Rajiv says.

This mode of treatment has also proved successful in a kid suffering from apnoea due to diaphragmatic hernia.

If pulmonary hypertension is not treated properly, death may occur. costly modern treatment using nitric oxide therapy was the common
treatment for this condition, but treatment using Viagra have proved more effective and less expensive says Dr. Rajiv.

He says that this type of treatment had been also experimented at Albert University, Canada last May.
