Kochi: Modern ventilator ambulance of Amritha Hospital has successfully completed its first mission. This has been done by shifting a
18 day old baby who was in a serious condition from Thiruvalla Medical Mission Hospital to Amritha Hospital for speciality treatment. The
child was shifted under the guidance of Dr.Rajiv, who is the Neonatology Head of the hospital.
This facility usually available only in big cities is experimented in Kerala for the first time. This ventilator facility is arranged in
foreign-made Ford ambulance, which costs almost 8 lakhs.
The baby contracted with respiratory disease was boarded into the ambulance from Thiruvalla Hospital at 5'O'clock in the evening.
Dr.Rajiv says that it is impossible to shift patients without the facility of a ventilator; the mortality rate is high even in the
presence of the ventilator. The condition of the baby became worse when the ambulance reached Alappuzha, so, it had to be halted and
lifesaving treatment was given. The ambulance unit reached Amritha at 8'o'clock. Dr.Rajiv says that the condition of the baby has now
become stable.
Hospital authorities says that this facility can be useful by the neighbouring districts. This facility can be reached within 100-150 Kms
of Amrita Hospital.
