Professional Profile and Career Excellence
Dr. Rajiv was instrumental in the history of the initiation and the evolution of Newborn Intensive Care in Kerala and South India since 1991 .He was instrumental in creating the technical expertise and manpower training coinciding with the structural microscopic detailing in the inception of four of the most advanced neonatal intensive care units in India. 1991 , Ventilatory Care in Child's Trust Hospital " Madras 34 .
1991 to 1999 : Introducing advanced neonatal ventilatory care to Kerala and forming the Apex institution in the state for high -risk mothers and babies . This 22 bedded 9 ventilated NICU was rated at that time to be one of the most technologically advanced unit in India by way of its survival and equipment sophistication .
1999 to 2002 : Dr. Rajiv was invited by the Mallya Hospital (UB group ) to start the most advanced newborn unit -He was the first to introduce high frequency ventilation in Kamataka 2001.;.
2002 onwards : Dr. Rajiv was invited by Her Holiness Matha Arnritananda Mayi Devi to start the most technologically sophisticated neonatal unit in India . This department has a wide range of specialized equipment namely high frequency ventilators , nitric oxide delivery systems and spirometry which make it in par with any neonatal unit in a university hospital in the U.S.
Dr. Rajiv has been actively linked with global activity to improve newborn intensive care in the country by virtue of being an active member of the national Neonatology Forum which is the central body giving the government of India gudelines to improve mother and child care in the country .

Programmes and strategies in Advanced Newborn Intensive Care Training programme in Advanced Newborn Intensive Care
This is one of its kind in India wherein prospective pediatricians from any part of the country can be trained and later reproduce the training to start newborn intensive care units in the country . This was a unique programme started in 1994 and currently 35 well -trained newborn specialists have started their own centers in the respective states . It is envisioned that he training will be imparted on a statewide basis so that by 2005 Each state will have at least 5 well trained neonatal specialists who will start their own newborn ICU . This programme will eventually improve considerably the care of a sick newborn in each district of the state an ultimately overall survival of a sick newborn in India.
