Accomplishments


PVS Memorial Hospital (1992-1999)

  • He conducted the "International Conference on Advanced Neonatal Care 1995" on 8th and 9th December 1995. It was the first time that a Conference dedicated to "Ventilation" was conducted in India where various centers dealing with ventilation compared their survival statistics. Speakers from both India and overseas participated in this conference and a workshop on "High Frequency Ventilation" was conducted by Dr. Robert Kopotic, Director of Research, Infrasonics, USA. Resolutions passed in the conference were submitted to the Government of Kerala to initiate strategies to reduce labour-related brain damage to negligible level by 2000 AD.

  • As Head of department of NICU in PVS memorial hospital it was recognized as one of the three most technologically advanced Neonatal units in the country. The overall survival rate of neonates was 92%.

  • The department of NICU in PVS Memorial Hospital was successfully done dialysis on a baby weighing 1.5 Kgs.

  • During his tenure as Head of the Department it successfully managed a pre term small for date baby born less than 24 weeks gestation with a birth weight of 510 gms, with normal Neurological status. This was probably the first of its kind in India at that time.

Apollo Mallya Hospital, Bangalore (1999-2002)

Project Director for the commissioning of a state-of -art 18 bedded and 8 ventilated NICU at Apollo Mallya Hospital, Bangalore. (In-charge of the Project from planning to commissioning and implementation at all levels.) This is one of the major speciality NICUs in Bangalore.

Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Cochin (2002)

As head of department of Newborn services in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences accomplished a medical break through in the country by using sildenafil citrate along with nitric oxide in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension of the newborn.
