Essentials of Neonatal Ventilation Dr P.K.Rajiv & Dr Vidyasagar - 2017
Book Profile
It is with great pleasure that i am able to finalise a dream so close to my heart for 8 years. It was a utopia to solicit and get the world’s best in each area of ventilatory care to agree to write their seminal chapter. I have gone through this exercise in a quixotian manner generally not taking a negative response as permanent. I was duly rewarded when all my favorite authors selected for their pioneering work agreed to this book. Dr. Polin once remarked it as a “very ambitious project " Now with Dr. Sagar as coeditor this book takes more momentum, depth and clarity in bedside ventilator strategy and care. Your extraordinary research work with neonatal nutrition is unmatched and the world should know the latest and most physiological guidelines recommended by you.
Some Common Thoughts to Share
Model Chapters
I have given 2 model chapters to be used as guidelines. The more we use conceptual models, graphs; cartoons flow charts etc the more the comprehension to target audience and its immortality. I have to remark here on Dr. Satyans immortal diagrams. I am sure all my authors are of great teaching and illustrious skills. Hence these 2 chapters are only a reference to hopefully do better.
Publisher Time Lines
Elsevier has given a time frame to finally submit all chapters by September 2017 (about a year) which is good. We would appreciate very much if all chapters are sent to us by June 2017 for us to edit. The book is about 800 pages but i will get confirmation shortly on chapter size in words. I will probably ask for 1000 pages since the theme of this book is to give DETAILED bedside navigation advice.
Expert Counsel Book
The chapters will be evidence based, but possibly in caveats, best practices done by the author is acceptable and recommended. The authors classical moves in ventilator care should be expressed. The book is focused on problem solving. Most text books rather have broad based approaches, which may not be applicable in many critical situations in newborn practice.
Dr. Sagar and me have no doubt of the inherent potential of this book, given the sheer power of your academic genius. This book could be aptly labeled as expert counsel book. We will strive to translate this to easy comprehension of the target audience (eg Dr Dale Dubins book on ECG).
