Dr.Rajiv was the first to introduce advanced neonatal care to Kerala in 1993 and the concept of corporate superspeciality hospitals in this region

  • Dr. Rajiv was the first to successfully use capnography in ventilated new borns in India 1994

  • As head of newborn intensive care in PVS memorial hospital he was the first to save a 500 gm baby born around twenty-two and a half weeks gestation in India 1997.

  • Subsequently he introduced high frequency ventilation to India (Kerala) in 1997 and was one of the first to perfect this complicated form of ventilation in India.

  • He was invited by the UB group to start the NICU in Apollo Mallya Hospital Bangalore. He was again the first to start high frequency ventilation in Karnataka. 1999

  • He was the first to introduce the most advanced facility in New Born care namely Nitric Oxide therapy in India for Pulmonary hypertension.

  • The application of respiratory mechanics monitoring with all the above mentioned technology in the N.I.C.U would place Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in par with any university hospital in the US. This department is reported to be the most technologically advanced neonatal intensive unit in the country. 2002

  • Dr. Rajiv was the first to introduce transport ambulance facility with portable ventilator in Kerala on first November 2003. In the future air ambulance facilities are being worked upon to airlift critical babies to AIMS by helicopter ambulance.

  • Proper Application of CPAP in developing countries could result in the survival of preterm babies between 40 to 60% . This comprehensive book is the first of this kind in the world (12th December 2008)
